Looks like it's finally happening, they are gong to do something to help improve the image of the beaches of San Agustin, Maspalomas and Playa del Ingles.
Considering the revenue that has been generated from these beaches over the years, I always thought it a shame (a crime) that some of the cash hadn't been re-invested in the beaches before now, especially as far as the sunbeds are concerned.
Towards the end of last year 700 new sunbeds were purchased and distributed along Maspalomas beach though 3,000 more are still due to be replaced.
Currently the three largest chains of luxury hotels are campaigning for the section of beach closest to their hotels (where the lighthouse is) be equipped with more comfortable / luxurious sunbeds instead of the standard ones shown above. Why they don't all club together and buy these themselves ... ???
So now it's the turn of the kiosks. These are to be replaced with a more modern style which are currently been voted as to which would be most suitable. The wooden style used in Marbella looks like it will be the winner (gets my vote!)
The current Kiosos are around 40 years old!! Ten of the new style kiosks will be ordered to distribute along the beach. They estimate the total cost of this at around 500,000 euros which seems a bit steep; I'm sure the guys down at Leroy Merlin could have knocked something up for half the price.
