One of the biggest carnivals in the world takes place here early each year in the island's capital, Las Palmas city. With the more popular days and parades attracting crowds of up to 300,000 people and more and taking place over a 3 week-long period.

This year the carnival was brought forward so as not to clash with the carnival in the south and is a little shorter than usual, starting on 3rd February with one of the main events taking place straight away, the carnival queen competition and finishing with the burial of the sardine on Las Canteras beach on 21st February.

If you can't get hold of tickets for the main Drag Queen competition then the "pre-selection" event is also well worth going to on the Tuesday, 14th February.

Other big events to watch out for are the Carnival Drag Queen competition and the all-night street party after on 17th February then the big parade and another all-night party on 18th February.
